Phone & Video Calls in Nevada (NDOC)
Nevada's communications system — ViaPath phone calls billed through ConnectNetwork, plus GettingOut tablets, electronic messaging, and video visits — and how families set up and fund accounts.
Nevada routes prison communications through two linked ViaPath systems. Telephone calls and account billing go through ViaPath Technologies, with prepaid funding processed by ConnectNetwork. Tablets, electronic messaging, and video visits go through GettingOut, a ViaPath service. This is a change from NDOC’s earlier telephone vendor (Securus). The incarcerated person places the calls and uses the tablet; family members fund the accounts and receive contact.
Phone calls and setting up an account
The incarcerated person places calls from institution phones; family members do not call in. To receive calls, a family member sets up and funds an account through ViaPath / ConnectNetwork:
- Prepaid (AdvancePay) account — created and funded by the family member through ConnectNetwork (online at ConnectNetwork.com, the automated phone line, or a customer-support representative). The balance pays for calls to that number.
- Traditional collect — calls billed to the receiving phone’s bill, if the carrier permits.
- Direct-bill accounts — available for attorneys and bail agents through ViaPath.
ConnectNetwork accounts can also hold money for the incarcerated person’s trust/commissary account; sending money is covered in Sending Money in Nevada. Per-minute calling rates are set by the ViaPath contract and have changed over time, so confirm the current rate with ViaPath/NDOC before funding an account.
Tablets and electronic messaging
NDOC issues tablets through GettingOut. The tablets support electronic messaging, photos, and short video clips, alongside other content. A family member creates a GettingOut account (at GettingOut.com or through the GettingOut mobile app) to exchange messages and photos with the incarcerated person and to fund tablet services. Messaging and media are paid features, and the incarcerated person must have a tablet and account access to receive them. Tablet pricing has been the subject of public reporting in Nevada, so confirm current per-message and per-item costs with GettingOut before relying on the service.
Video visits
Nevada offers video visits through GettingOut (the same platform as the tablets). A visitor registers through GettingOut — online or in the app — and schedules a session; availability and scheduling are set by the institution. Video visits are separate from in-person visiting, which is covered in Visiting in Nevada. Video-visit rates are set by the ViaPath/GettingOut contract, so confirm the current rate and the institution’s video-visit availability before scheduling.
