Visiting an incarcerated person in Nevada involves getting on the person’s approved visitor list and then arranging a visit with the institution. Days, hours, and whether a visit is contact or non-contact are set by the institution and the person’s custody level, so confirm the details with the specific prison.

Step 1: Getting on the visitor list

Each incarcerated person builds an approved visitor list by submitting an application to add each visitor; the institution then mails the prospective visitor a visiting application to complete and return. A list holds up to five approved visitors (with an exception for the person’s documented minor children). A visitor must be approved before visiting. These rules come from NDOC Administrative Regulation 719.

Step 2: Arranging the visit

Nevada has no statewide online scheduler. Visiting days and hours are set by each institution, and NDOC has at times run a “week on, week off” visiting schedule statewide, so confirm the current schedule with the specific prison. Visitors check in ahead of the visit slot. Questions about an incarcerated person can go to NDOC Family Services at (775) 977-5707.

What to wear

The NDOC dress code applies to all visitors:

  • No blue denim (it resembles inmate clothing).
  • No shorts, midriff tops, halter or tank tops, or other revealing clothing.
  • Dress conservatively; closed footwear.

Each institution enforces the dress code at the entrance and may turn away a visitor who is out of code, so confirm the specific institution’s rules before traveling.

Identification

Every adult visitor must show a valid government-issued photo ID. A minor must be on the approved list and accompanied by an approved adult; confirm the institution’s rules for bringing children.

What you can bring

Items in the visiting room are tightly limited. Phones, bags, and most personal items are not allowed. Money for the person’s account is sent through the NDOC vendor, never handed over at a visit — see Sending Money in Nevada.

Video visiting

Nevada offers video visits through GettingOut (the NDOC tablet and video platform). The visitor registers through GettingOut; confirm the institution’s video-visit availability and how to schedule.
