How phone calls work

Missouri DOC provides inmate phone service through Securus. Calls are placed by the incarcerated person using a phone app on the JPay tablets that incarcerated people are issued — a person outside cannot call in. The tablet platform is JPay and the calling is powered by Securus; the two are part of the same corporate family.

To receive or pay for calls, a family member can:

  • buy debit call time (funded at the canteen/kiosk or by the family),
  • set up a Securus AdvanceConnect prepaid account, or
  • use Securus Collect (direct-billed).

Family account setup is at securustech.net or by phone at 1-800-844-6591.

This arrangement applies to every Missouri state prison.

Call recording

Calls are generally monitored and recorded, except properly designated privileged legal calls.

Call rates

Do not rely on a fixed per-minute figure. Rates, fees, and features change. Check Securus (securustech.net) for current rates and how to open an account.

Tablets, messaging, and email

Tablets are JPay tablets. Email and messaging run through Securus (securustech.net) and include text messages, photo attachments, electronic greeting cards, and short “VideoGram” clips.

Digital greeting cards through Securus/JPay are an alternative to postal mail. For postal mail, see the mail guide.

Video visits

Video visits run through Securus. Remote video visits are scheduled in advance and carry a fee, while on-site video visits at the facility are free. Confirm current scheduling and fees with Securus. The visiting guide covers how visits are arranged.
