Potosi Correctional Center, on State Highway O near Mineral Point, is a maximum-security (Level 5) prison for men in eastern Missouri. It houses the men held under a death sentence in Missouri, alongside a maximum-security general population. Men under a death sentence are housed here and are transferred to ERDCC in Bonne Terre, where the state’s execution chamber is located, only shortly before a scheduled execution. It opened in 1989 and holds about 800 men.
