Phone & Video Calls in Indiana (IDOC)
How calls, tablets, video visits, and digital messages work in Indiana prisons — all through ViaPath (formerly GTL) on the ConnectNetwork platform, with video visits scheduled at gtlvisitme.com and messages sent through GettingOut.
How phone calls work
IDOC provides inmate phone service through ViaPath (formerly GTL) on the ConnectNetwork platform. Calls are placed by the incarcerated person — a person outside cannot call in.
To receive or pay for calls, a family member can:
- Set up AdvancePay, a prepaid account, at ConnectNetwork.com or by phone;
- Fund PIN Debit, where the incarcerated person buys call time through commissary and the family can add funds through ConnectNetwork; or
- Accept collect calls.
This arrangement applies to every Indiana state prison, including the two operated by GEO Group — New Castle Correctional Facility and Heritage Trail Correctional Facility.
Call recording
Calls are generally monitored and recorded, except properly designated privileged legal calls.
Call rates
Do not rely on a fixed per-minute figure. Rates, fees, and features change. Check ConnectNetwork (ConnectNetwork.com) for current rates and how to open an account.
Tablets
Tablets are provided through ViaPath. PIN-debit funds can be used for both phone calls and tablet services.
Video visits
Video visits run through ViaPath and are scheduled and paid at gtlvisitme.com — the same platform used to register and schedule in-person visits. The visitor must be on the approved visitor list. The visiting guide covers how visits are arranged.
Digital messages and photos
Digital messages and photos are sent through GettingOut (a ViaPath service) at GettingOut.com. To send messages, create an account, add the incarcerated person as a contact, and fund the account. The mail guide covers other forms of correspondence.
