Arizona's statewide reception and classification complex for men, in Phoenix — its Alhambra unit is where newly committed men are received and assessed before transfer to a permanent unit.

Overview

ASPC-Phoenix, on East Van Buren Street in Phoenix, is the statewide reception and classification complex for men. Its Alhambra unit is where newly committed men are received, assessed (medical, mental health, and custody classification), and then assigned and transferred to a permanent unit elsewhere in the system. Because of that role, a man may be here only briefly, and the complex shown in the locator can change within the first weeks. The complex also operates mental-health housing units. Like all ADCRR prisons, it is organized into units, and visiting is arranged at the unit level.

What Makes ASPC-Phoenix Different

  • Its Alhambra unit is the statewide men’s reception and classification center, so a newly committed man usually begins here before transferring.
  • Visiting is restricted during the reception period, so confirm the person’s status and unit before traveling.
  • It includes mental-health housing units, where visiting arrangements may differ — confirm with the unit.
  • It is in central Phoenix, more centrally located than many Arizona complexes.

Mail

Personal mail does not go to the prison. Since December 2025, Arizona routes incoming personal mail to an off-site Securus digital-mail center in Dallas, Texas, where it is scanned and delivered to the person’s tablet; address it to [person’s name and ADCRR number], P.O. Box 211309, Dallas, TX 75211. Legal mail, publications, and parcels still go directly to the complex. Full rules are in Mail & Packages.
