Visiting in Arizona (ADCRR)
Arizona's visiting process — submitting the Application to Visit an Inmate and getting approved, then visiting by appointment at the specific unit (visiting is organized unit by unit within each complex) — plus the dress code, ID rules, and Securus video visits.
Visiting an incarcerated person in Arizona involves getting approved on the person’s visitor list and then visiting by appointment at the specific unit. Because each ADCRR complex is made up of several units with different security levels, the visiting schedule and rules are set at the unit level — so confirm the details for the unit where the person is actually held. These rules come from ADCRR Department Order 911.
Step 1: Getting approved
Anyone who wants to visit must submit the Application to Visit an Inmate and be approved before visiting. The process includes a background check, and supporting documents must be received within about 30 days; approval can take up to about 60 days. A non-refundable processing fee applies — confirm the current amount with ADCRR.
Step 2: Scheduling the visit
Visits are by appointment, and the days, hours, length, and frequency vary by complex, unit, and the person’s custody level (visiting is often offered in weekend time blocks, with frequency tied to the person’s program/phase level). Confirm the schedule and how to book with the specific unit before traveling. Some privately operated prisons (such as La Palma) schedule visits online rather than by phone.
What to wear
The ADCRR dress code (Department Order 911) applies to all visitors:
- Nothing orange (it resembles inmate clothing).
- No camouflage.
- No sheer, see-through, or open-net clothing, and no spandex-like material.
- No medical scrubs.
Each unit may add rules, and dress standards are enforced at the entrance, so confirm the specific unit’s current rules before traveling.
Identification
Every adult visitor must show a valid government-issued photo ID. A minor must be approved on the visitor list and accompanied by an approved adult; confirm the unit’s rules for bringing children.
What you can bring
Items are tightly limited and vary by unit — generally a photo ID and, where permitted, a small amount of money for vending in a clear container. Phones, bags, and gifts are not allowed. Money for the person’s account is sent through Securus, never handed over at a visit.
Video visiting
Arizona offers video visits through Securus. The visitor must be on the approved visitor list, the same as for an in-person visit. Confirm the specific unit’s video-visit availability and how to schedule.
