A historic men's prison complex in Florence whose general population was largely closed in 2022 — its Central Unit remains in use and houses the state's execution chamber.

Overview

ASPC-Florence, on East Butte Avenue in Florence, is one of Arizona’s oldest prison complexes. Its general population was largely closed in 2022, and most people who had been held there were transferred to other complexes; its Central Unit remains in use and houses the state’s execution chamber. Because so much of the complex has been deactivated, a family member should confirm on the ADCRR Inmate Data Search which complex actually holds the person before planning a visit here.

What Makes ASPC-Florence Different

  • Its general population was largely closed in 2022, so most people formerly held here are now at other complexes.
  • The Central Unit houses the state’s execution chamber.
  • It is one of Arizona’s oldest prisons, in Florence’s cluster of state prisons.
  • Confirm the person’s actual complex first, because the location shown for a past record may have changed.

Nearby Services

Florence has gas, food, and lodging; the Casa Grande area to the south has more. The nearest 24-hour emergency room is in the Florence–Casa Grande area (Banner Casa Grande Medical Center).

Mail

Personal mail does not go to the prison. Since December 2025, Arizona routes incoming personal mail to an off-site Securus digital-mail center in Dallas, Texas, where it is scanned and delivered to the person’s tablet; address it to [person’s name and ADCRR number], P.O. Box 211309, Dallas, TX 75211. Legal mail, publications, and parcels still go directly to the complex. Full rules are in Mail & Packages.
