How phone calls work

Kansas’s phone vendor is ICSolutions (ICS Corrections, Inc.). The resident places the call; families cannot call in. To receive calls, the called party sets up a prepaid account through ICSolutions — by phone or online at no cost to open. ICSolutions customer service is 1-888-506-8407.

Have the resident’s full name and KDOC registration number ready when setting up the account. The per-minute call rate is set in the vendor contract and is subject to change, so confirm the current rate with ICSolutions before funding an account. Service fees may apply to deposits and account transactions in addition to call costs; review those at the point of payment.

Video visits

Kansas offers remote video visits through ICSolutions — a different product from in-person visiting, and a different channel from the GettingOut messaging tablet. Remote video visits are conducted through the ICS Mobile app, a Windows app, or the web at icsolutions.com.

To use video visits, the visitor must first be on the resident’s approved visitation list, then register for free at icsolutions.com. Remote video visits are fee-based, and the cost varies by facility. Because the app and the per-session price are set by the vendor and change, confirm the current app and the session cost with ICSolutions, and confirm what is offered at the specific facility, before booking. In-person visiting is also scheduled through ICSolutions — see Visiting.

Electronic messaging

Electronic messaging — email and photos — runs through a separate vendor, GettingOut (ViaPath Technologies, formerly GTL). This is distinct from the ICSolutions phone and video service. Set up an account at gettingout.com/kansas-doc or through the free GettingOut app for iOS and Android; GettingOut support is 1-800-574-5729.

Messaging is a written channel, not a substitute for a phone or video call. Per-message and per-item prices are set by the vendor and change, so confirm the current cost with GettingOut before sending. Video visits are not handled through the GettingOut tablet — those run through ICSolutions, as described above.

Sending money

Phone service through ICSolutions, messaging through GettingOut, and the resident’s trust account are funded separately, through different vendors. For depositing to a resident’s trust account — through Access Corrections — see Sending Money.
