Dress code

Dress modestly — Kansas facilities enforce a visiting dress code that bars revealing, transparent, or provocative clothing, gang-related items, and anything resembling what residents or staff wear.
Each facility may turn away a visitor who is dressed out of code, and electronic devices are not allowed inside, so confirm the specific facility's rules before traveling.

ID: Every visitor must be on the resident's pre-approved visitation list before visiting (under KDOC policy IMPP 10-113D). Bring a government-issued photo ID to each visit.

Newly admitted people in reception cannot have family visits until they advance past intake. Topeka Correctional Facility is a state prison for women operated by the Kansas Department of Corrections. It is in Topeka, the state capital and the seat of Shawnee County, in northeast Kansas. The facility holds women across all custody levels, meaning women in minimum, medium, and higher custody are housed within the one institution.

Every woman entering Kansas DOC custody is first received and processed here — through medical, mental-health, and classification screening — before being assigned to a permanent housing unit within the facility. During this reception period, family visits are restricted: only attorneys, clergy, and law enforcement may visit until the resident advances past intake. Topeka Correctional Facility is the facility designated to hold any woman sentenced to death in Kansas; no woman is currently held under a death sentence. Kansas retains the death penalty in law but has not carried out an execution since 1965. Getting There and Parking

Topeka Correctional Facility is at 815 S.E. Rice Rd. in Topeka, in Shawnee County in northeast Kansas. Topeka is reached by way of Interstate 70, Interstate 470, and U.S. Highway 75. The nearest large commercial airport is in the Kansas City area, to the east along Interstate 70.
