Overview
Idaho Correctional Institution-Orofino (ICIO) is a state prison for men operated by the Idaho Department of Correction (IDOC). It is in Orofino, in north-central Idaho, and holds medium-custody men along with men placed in protective custody. The facility also includes the Givens Hall work camp, and it offers vocational work and education programs.
Idaho’s term for people in custody is “resident.”
What Makes Idaho Correctional Institution-Orofino Different
ICIO is one of the few Idaho prisons outside the South Boise Prison Complex near Kuna, where most of the state’s facilities are clustered. Because ICIO is in north-central Idaho, families who live in the Boise area and southern Idaho travel a long distance to visit, and the location is a significant factor in planning a visit.
Within the facility, ICIO houses both medium-custody men and men assigned to protective-custody units. It also operates the Givens Hall work camp and runs vocational work and education programs.
Visiting
The statewide IDOC visiting rules — the approved-visitor-list process, the dress code, ID requirements, and item limits — apply at ICIO. The facility’s own arrangements:
Getting There
Idaho Correctional Institution-Orofino is at 381 West Hospital Drive in Orofino, in north-central Idaho. It is well away from the South Boise Prison Complex near Kuna, so visitors coming from the Boise area or southern Idaho travel a long distance. Visitors confirm current entry procedures, the visitor-processing location, and what may be brought onto the grounds with the facility before arriving, because electronic devices and personal items are generally not permitted inside.
Idaho does not use an off-site mail vendor for its state prisons. Incoming personal mail goes directly to the facility, where staff inspect it before delivery. Address personal mail with the resident’s committed name and IDOC number, the facility name, and the facility’s mailing address:
