Overview
The White River Correctional Center, in Batesville, is a supervision-sanction center — part of Arkansas’s community-corrections system rather than a traditional prison. It holds men who are serving short sanctions (often about 90 days, up to 180) for technical violations of probation, parole, or post-release supervision — for example, a missed check-in or a failed drug test — as a diversion from a longer prison term. It opened in 2024 in a former juvenile-detention facility and has about 162 beds. Because stays are short, a person may be here only briefly before returning to supervision.
What Makes White River Different
- It is a short-term sanction center, not a standard prison — most people are serving brief sanctions and may be released back to supervision soon.
- It holds technical violators, not people serving new-crime convictions, with a rehabilitation and reentry focus.
- It is new (2024), in a converted juvenile facility, so ADC has published little about visiting — confirm directly.
Visiting
The statewide ADC rules — the approved visitor list, the no-white dress code, ID, and pre-scheduled visits — are the baseline, but as a community-corrections sanction center, White River’s visiting may differ.
The full statewide approval process is in Visiting in Arkansas.

Legal mail, books, and magazines still go directly to the facility at the Batesville address. Full addressing details are in Mail & Packages.
