Overview
The Larry B. Norris Unit, at Tucker, is Arkansas’s dedicated maximum-security prison for men, with a rated capacity of about 532 (established 1983). It was known as the Maximum Security Unit until January 2025, when the Board of Corrections renamed it for former ADC director Larry B. Norris. It was the former home of Arkansas’s male death row, which moved to the nearby Varner Supermax Unit in 2003.

Pine Bluff, about 25 miles southwest, has the nearest cluster of hotels, restaurants, and services. The nearest hospital emergency room is Jefferson Regional Medical Center in Pine Bluff.
Personal mail does not go to the unit. Since September 2025, ADC routes non-legal personal letters and photos to an off-site scanning center in Tampa, Florida, addressed with the person’s name and ADC number; the person receives the mail electronically.
