Pruntytown Correctional Center, near Grafton in Taylor County, is a minimum-security men’s prison holding about 230 men in custody levels 1-2 (FY2024). People placed here are generally within about three years of release, and the facility is work-oriented: it runs supervised outside work crews (including road crews) and a correctional-industries worksite. It also operates Unit 25, a long-term substance-abuse treatment community, along with education, vocational, college, and work-release programs. The site was originally the West Virginia Industrial School for Boys, a juvenile reform institution that operated from the 1890s until 1983; it reopened as an adult prison in 1985.
