Dress code

Tight-fitting, revealing, or see-through clothing is not allowed.
Sleeveless shirts and dresses are allowed only if the shoulders stay covered.
Shorts and skirts must be no shorter than three inches above the middle of the knee while standing.
Clothing with profane or offensive images or language is not allowed.
Visitors may not wear all-white clothing (incarcerated people wear white). Sandals and open-toe shoes are allowed.

ID: Each adult visitor (18 or older) must present a current government-issued photo ID, and at least one ID document must show a current physical address.
What to bring: No cell phones, smartwatches, cameras, other electronics, tobacco, paper money, food, or outside drinks. A small clear bag or change purse and up to $35 in coins for vending machines are allowed.
Scheduling: Visits are booked through the TDCJ Online Visitation Portal, at least one and no more than seven days ahead. One visit per weekend is standard.

The A.M. “Mac” Stringfellow Unit is a men’s prison near Rosharon in Brazoria County, in the bottomland southwest of Houston where several TDCJ units operate close together. TDCJ established the unit in July 1908, making it one of the oldest prison farms in the Texas system. Programs

Alongside its general-population housing, Stringfellow runs the two treatment missions TDCJ lists for the unit: a Sex Offender Treatment Program and a Special Needs Substance Abuse Felony Punishment Facility component. Education and career programs include literacy classes (ABE and GED), the CHANGES pre-release program, cognitive intervention, and vocational training in construction carpentry and diesel mechanics.

Getting There and Parking

Stringfellow is in a rural section of Brazoria County, south of Houston, reached on farm-to-market roads off the highway grid.

Several TDCJ units cluster in the Rosharon area, and their names are easy to confuse. A nearby cluster unit is a different drive and a different visitation list, so the TDCJ inmate locator should be used to confirm the exact unit a person is assigned to before traveling.

Phones, Mail, and Video

Contact has a sequence to it. A phone number must be on the incarcerated person’s approved contact list before calls can connect, and after intake or a transfer that approval can take time to process. Rosharon is small, with limited commercial services. Services for gas, food, groceries, and lodging are concentrated toward Angleton to the south, Pearland to the north, and the larger Houston metro area, rather than near the unit itself.
