The Glossbrenner Unit is a state facility operated by TDCJ as a Substance Abuse Felony Punishment Facility (SAFPF). A SAFPF is an intensive, court-ordered in-prison treatment program for people whose offenses are tied to substance use; participants are placed there to complete structured treatment rather than to serve a standard general-population term. TDCJ lists the unit at about 612 beds. It opened in December 1994 and sits near San Diego in Duval County, in South Texas.

Getting There and Parking

The Glossbrenner Unit is in a rural section of Duval County, off FM 1329 near San Diego in South Texas. The drive starts on highways but finishes on farm-to-market roads, and services thin out over the last stretch. A private vehicle is required.

There is no fixed-route public transit to the unit, so the trip is by car.
