Rhode Island runs a unified correctional system — jail and prison in one state department — and all of it sits in one place: the six facilities of the Adult Correctional Institutions (ACI) occupy a single square mile on the Pastore Government Center campus in Cranston. Men enter the system through the Intake Service Center — the state’s jail — and women through the Gloria McDonald Women’s Facility; sentenced people move between the campus’s maximum, medium, minimum, and high-security buildings as classification changes. Each facility keeps its own visiting schedule, phone, and mailing address despite the shared campus. RIDOC posts an online incarceration search and runs a 24/7 automated information line for families. Use the guides below for state-specific rules and procedures, or jump to a specific facility.
