How personal mail works now

Since September 1, 2024, incoming personal mail to an Oklahoma DOC facility does not go to the prison. Oklahoma DOC routes personal letters, cards, and photos to an off-site vendor, the Securus Digital Mail Center, which opens and scans each item and delivers a digital color image to the incarcerated person’s Securus tablet. The original mail is not forwarded to the facility. A person without tablet or kiosk access can request a free black-and-white printout.

Address personal mail with the inmate’s full committed name, their ODOC number (the seven-digit Oklahoma DOC ID), and the Securus Digital Mail Center lines:

Legal and privileged mail

Legal mail does not use the digital mail center. Mail from courts, attorneys, and other privileged or special correspondents goes directly to the facility where the person is housed, not to the Dallas scanning center, and is handled under the rules for privileged mail. Attorneys confirm the facility’s current handling instructions with the prison.

Books, magazines, and publications

Publications — magazines, newspapers, and books — also go directly to the facility, not to the Securus P.O. box. They must come directly from the publisher or an approved vendor, not from family or friends. Look up the current address for the specific facility on the Oklahoma DOC Facilities page, since each prison’s address differs.

Packages

Packages cannot be sent to the digital mail center. They are handled through the facility, not through the Securus scanning center. Confirm the facility’s package rules with the prison, since they differ by location and custody level.
