Dress code

No revealing or provocative clothing and nothing gang-associated; do not wear green (it resembles what incarcerated people wear) or anything resembling staff uniforms.

Overview

Wende Correctional Facility, in Alden, is a maximum-security prison for men in Western New York, east of Buffalo. It is a hub facility: it serves as a men’s reception/classification center for Western New York, and it houses a Regional Medical Unit (RMU), one of the state’s inpatient medical units. Like all maximum-security facilities, visiting and movement are more controlled than at lower-security prisons.

Mail

New York does not use an off-site mail vendor — incoming personal mail is opened and photocopied at the facility, and the incarcerated person receives the photocopies (images may also reach their JPay tablet) rather than the original letters.
