Dress code

Overview

Auburn Correctional Facility, in Auburn, is a maximum-security prison for men in the Finger Lakes region of central New York. It is one of the oldest prisons in the state, built in the late 1810s. Auburn is the origin of the “Auburn system” of congregate, silent labor — a model of prison organization that spread to other states in the 19th century. Auburn is also one of New York’s men’s reception and classification centers, so it receives and processes some men entering the state prison system. Like all maximum-security facilities, visiting and movement are more controlled than at lower-security prisons.
