Sending Money in New Mexico (NMCD)
How to put money on a New Mexico Corrections Department inmate trust account by U.S. postal money order, and how the separate Securus Debit account funds calls and tablet services.
How to deposit to the trust account
Money for commissary and personal spending goes into the inmate’s trust account. The method confirmed by the New Mexico Corrections Department is a mailed money order:
- Use a U.S. postal money order.
- Make it payable to the inmate’s name and NMCD number.
- Mail it to the inmate at their facility.
The depositor must be on the inmate’s approved visitor list before sending funds. The inmate’s full committed name and NMCD number are required on the money order so the deposit is credited to the right account. The NMCD number can be confirmed through the Offender Search on the New Mexico Corrections Department site.
New Mexico does not publish a single statewide trust-deposit address, and the facility a person is housed at can change. Confirm the current mailing address for trust deposits with the inmate’s facility before sending a money order.
Is there an online deposit option?
Many state systems also accept trust deposits online or by phone through a third-party vendor. For New Mexico, an online or phone deposit vendor for the trust account is not confirmed. The method documented by the Department is the mailed money order described above.
If you would prefer to deposit online, contact the inmate’s facility and ask whether an online or other deposit option is available, rather than assuming one exists. Family and Constituent Services can also point you to the current process.
The phone and messaging account is separate
The trust account is not the same as the account that pays for calls and tablet services. Phone calls, messaging, tablet media, and video run through Securus and are funded through a separate Securus Debit account. Money added to the trust account does not pay for phone time, and money added to the Securus Debit account is not commissary money. For how to set up and add money to the calling and messaging account, see Phone & Video Calls.
Don’t hand money over at a visit
Funds are added only through the methods above. Money is not accepted in person during a visit. A money order intended for the trust account is mailed to the inmate at the facility — confirm the current address with the facility first.
