Overview
Chippewa Correctional Facility, on W. M-80 in Kincheloe, is a large Level I and II men’s prison in the eastern Upper Peninsula. It opened in 1989. The facility has an East side, which holds a mix of custody levels along with a segregation/detention unit, and a West side, the former Straits Correctional Facility, made up of dormitory Level II units. It runs the Michigan Leader Dogs for the Blind program. It sits next to the separate Kinross Correctional Facility, also in Kincheloe.
