Colorado's only Level I minimum facility in the Cañon City area, reopened in 2022 as 'The Beacon at Skyline' with a single-cell, program-focused model.
Overview
Skyline Correctional Center is the only Level I minimum facility in the Cañon City area, on the East Cañon Complex in Fremont County. It began operating in 1957, sat vacant from December 2020 to October 2022, and then reopened as “The Beacon at Skyline” — a redesigned, single-cell facility built around a “human-centered” program model with a new organizational structure. Among its features, a group of residents work as “Community Advocates” who guide their peers and work alongside staff.
