Overview

Staton Correctional Facility, on Marion Spillway Road in Elmore, Elmore County, is a medium-security men’s prison holding about 1,370 men. It is one of several prisons clustered in Elmore County northeast of Montgomery (near the Elmore and Frank Lee facilities). ADOC notes that Staton provides emergency medical services, serving its own population and the nearby Frank Lee center. It runs a broad vocational slate through Ingram State Technical College (barbering, welding, automotive, and HVAC, among others), plus a law library, counseling, and substance-abuse treatment. The facility, named for Thomas F. Staton, a former chairman of the Alabama Board of Corrections, opened in June 1978.

Mail

Personal mail does not go to the prison. Since late 2025, ADOC routes personal letters, cards, and photos to an off-site scanning center in San Antonio, Texas, addressed with the person’s name and AIS number; the person receives the mail as images on a tablet.
