Overview

G.K. Fountain Correctional Facility, on Highway 21 about seven miles north of Atmore in Escambia County, is a medium-security men’s prison holding about 1,270 men. It sits on a roughly 8,200-acre property — one of the largest prison sites in the state — next to Holman on the same Highway 21 corridor. Fountain runs broad vocational and agricultural programs, including trades training through Ingram State Technical College (welding, auto body and mechanics, HVAC, carpentry, and barbering) and cattle and crop operations. It opened in 1928, making it one of ADOC’s oldest prisons.
