Sending Money in Pennsylvania (PADOC)
How to deposit to a Pennsylvania inmate's trust account through JPay — online, by phone, at a lobby kiosk, or by mailed money order — the deposit limits per method, the information each requires, and where to confirm current fees and restitution deductions.
How to deposit
Pennsylvania routes money to an inmate’s trust account through JPay, the only deposit processor for all Pennsylvania SCIs. Deposits can be made:
- Online at jpay.com,
- by phone at 800-574-5729,
- at a lobby kiosk in each SCI, or
- by mailing a money order to JPay with a deposit slip.
For any method you need the person’s name and DOC inmate number. Money orders are not accepted at the prisons themselves — a mailed money order goes to JPay with a deposit slip, not to the facility. There are no anonymous deposits.
Deposit limits
| Method | Limit |
|---|---|
| Credit card | $300 per 72 hours per card |
| Money order | Up to $999.99 |
| Cash at a MoneyGram kiosk | Up to $5,000 per transaction |
Fees and deductions
Fees vary by amount and method, so check JPay’s fee schedule for the current fee rather than relying on a fixed figure. If the person owes restitution, fines, or court costs, PADOC may deduct a percentage of incoming deposits. The fee schedule, rather than a quoted number, is the authoritative source for current charges.
How the account works
Money sits in the person’s trust account and is sent through JPay; it cannot be handed over during a visit. Funds are spent through the prison’s system, and other obligations may be deducted from deposits.
