Visiting in Oklahoma (Oklahoma DOC)
How to get on an Oklahoma prison's approved visitor list, how visits are scheduled through the statewide Visitation Unit, the contact and non-contact rules, and what visitors may bring.
Getting on the approved visitor list
No one may visit until they are an approved visitor. Each prospective visitor submits a Visitor Application Form, either online or on paper, and passes a background check. Applicants must be 18 or older to be processed.
Paper applications are mailed to the statewide Visitation Unit:
Oklahoma Department of Corrections Attn: Visitation Unit P.O. Box 11400 Oklahoma City, OK 73136-0400
Approval can take up to 90 days. The incarcerated person is notified once a visitor is approved.
Scheduling a visit
Oklahoma DOC runs a centralized Visitation Unit that handles scheduling for all facilities. Every visit must be scheduled in advance — there are no walk-ins.
- Confirm the visitor is on the incarcerated person’s approved list.
- Contact the statewide Visitation Unit at 405-768-3269 to request a visit. Requests must be received by Wednesday at 1 p.m. for the upcoming period.
- The incarcerated person is notified of the approval and the scheduled date and time.
Changes to a scheduled visit after the Wednesday 1 p.m. deadline require facility authorization.
Visiting days and hours
Visiting days vary by facility, but Saturday and Sunday are available at all facilities. Sessions generally run 8 a.m.–4 p.m. Some facilities also offer weekday visiting; the schedule differs from one facility to the next.
Contact and non-contact visits
Whether a visit is contact or non-contact depends on the incarcerated person’s security classification and housing unit:
- Maximum-security Level 1 is limited to up to one hour of non-contact visiting per week.
- Higher trust levels are eligible for longer contact visits.
- Special management and restrictive housing are limited to non-contact visits only.
The visit type is set by the facility based on the person’s classification and housing.
ID and what visitors may bring
An approved-attire list applies to all visitors. Inside the visiting area, visitors may bring only:
- Identification.
- A car key.
- Coins for the vending machines.
Reception and where someone enters the system
Where a person first enters the Oklahoma prison system depends on their gender:
- Men: all men enter through the Lexington Assessment and Reception Center (LARC) in Lexington, which processes new commitments from all 77 counties before transfer.
- Women: all women enter through the reception unit at the Mabel Bassett Correctional Center (MBCC) in McLoud.
Families are not notified of routine transfers. The Oklahoma DOC offender lookup shows a person’s current location. See Transfers & Finding Someone.
