Depositing Through ViaPath

In 2025 New Jersey moved its money services from JPay to ViaPath (ConnectNetwork). Every deposit is keyed to the person’s name and SBI number (look it up on the NJDOC Offender Search). The channels:

  • Online at ConnectNetwork.com, or the ConnectNetwork app, by credit or debit card
  • By phone at 1-888-428-1845
  • Cash at participating retail locations
  • By money order (see below)

Card deposits carry a fee — recently roughly $0.90 up to about $8 depending on the amount — and the current table is on NJDOC’s ViaPath page; confirm it there, since fees change.

Money Orders Go to TouchPay, Not the Prison

A mailed money order is made payable to TouchPay Holdings, LLC (ViaPath’s payment processor) and sent with the official deposit slip to:

TouchPay Holdings, LLC 10005 Technology Blvd West, Suite 130 Dallas, TX 75220

The maximum is $500 per money order, there is no fee, and you must include the deposit form with the person’s full name and number. Do not mail money to the prison — and do not use the old JPay address.

What Comes Out of a Deposit

By state regulation, several things are deducted before money reaches a person’s spending balance: court-ordered payments, restitution, and fines, a mandatory Victims of Crime Compensation assessment, and medical and medication co-pays owed. In addition, a 10% surcharge is added to every commissary purchase. There is an indigent protection: for a person with little money, only funds above $15 in a month may be taken for these obligations.

Commissary and Packages

A person buys snacks, hygiene items, and other approved goods from the commissary, against their account, with the 10% surcharge applied. New Jersey does not publish a statewide program for families to send retail food or hygiene packages to a state prison, so the way families help is by depositing money; confirm any package rules with the specific facility.

Confirming a Deposit

An online, app, or phone deposit shows in the ConnectNetwork account history. Because the vendor changed in 2025, confirm the current deposit channels and fees on NJDOC’s ViaPath page before a first deposit, and use ViaPath/ConnectNetwork rather than JPay.
