Sending Money in Connecticut (DOC)
How to put money on a Connecticut inmate's trust account — by money order to the Wethersfield lockbox or electronically through JPay, TouchPay, or Western Union — and why you don't need to pay for calls.
By mail
The DOC accepts a money order or a certified/cashier’s check (no cash, no personal checks), made payable to the inmate with the inmate’s name and number. Include the inmate’s name, number, and date of birth, your full name and address, and a remitter form (available on the DOC website, by calling the account line, or in facility visiting areas). Do not enclose a letter, card, or photos with the payment — send those to the facility separately. Mail it to:
Inmate Trust Fund P.O. Box 290800 Wethersfield, CT 06129-0800
Allow about 10 working days for a money order to post. Questions about an account go to the Inmate Trust Fund at (860) 692-7670.
Electronic deposits
For a faster option, the DOC works with three vendors — JPay (jpay.com), TouchPay (through ctdoc.net), and Western Union — which take deposits online, by phone, or at retail locations. Each charges a fee that changes over time and varies by amount and method, so confirm the current fee at the vendor before sending. Mailing a money order is generally the lowest-cost route.
Communication is already free
Unlike most states, Connecticut covers the cost of phone calls, video visits, and electronic messages, so families do not fund those. Money on the trust account is for commissary and similar needs. The only communication-related charge is paid tablet content like music and movies. See Phone & Video Calls.
